• Key Comprehension 4 page 9 - Due to a shortage of books, four people have kindly volunteered to do this homework on Wednesday instead. If you are doing it today, please give it in tomorrow. Otherwise, hand it in on Saturday.
• Finish preparing your presentation - The most important thing to think about is your audience. You need to tell them about your planet. It doesn't matter if you have a poster or not. You have to talk to people and explain something about your planet. You MUST understand the things you are saying. DO NOT just copy something from a book and read it. Look at the class when you are telling them things. We will be asking questions when you have finished!
  

Amazing Inventions!

While I was browsing the web, hard at work on our topic, I came across this site about inventions that changed the modern world. I thought it was fascinating so I've added it to our list. Have a look and see how much things have changed since they were invented.

Time Travel

We had a very busy day in Y4 today. Some of us went to Hawaii, Singapore, Alaska, New York, Brazil and Sydney, all in an hour! Of course, there were lots of things to do in each place and it all depended on the time when we arrived. In Sydney, which was in our classroom, it was dinner time so we sat down for a little hot dog and some tv. The rest of the time was spent sleeping, having a bed time story, doing exercise and watching the stars in the night sky. Everyone had a lot of fun (some of us had a lot of hot dogs) and we've all learned a lot about how time changes around the world, I hope!

3. Write 8 sentences that are NOT true. Remember your spelling rules!
4. Begin researching your planet. You will be working with a partner in class but you need to prepare some research at home. Find books, find information on the internet and bring it to share with your partner.

• Write a factfile about the planet Earth. Use the factfiles we have written about the Sun and moon as a guide. Research Earth, thinking about the questions we talked about in class. You can also add your own. You should write at least 5 paragraphs BY SATURDAY. Do this in your Topic book, not on computer.

Back into the routine straight away, as I'm sure you're glad to hear. Today's tasks are as follows:

3. Abacus workbook pages 29-30
4. Finish the 'Time' idea map - I would like as many words or ideas about time as you can think of written around the big 'Time' in the middle. If you want to draw pictures of things connected to time, you can. It should be clear and bright.
   

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to one and all and a Happy New Year! It was lovely to see so many people back for the first day of school today. We had 13! I hope that those who weren't here are just recovering from a tiring flight back, rather than limping around on a bad leg like Mrs Marshall. Anyway, I'm sure we'll see everyone soon enough.

So, back to school and back to work. We're almost half way through the year, or we will be soon. Doesn't time fly! And that brings me neatly on to our next topic: Time and Place. I'll be putting more information up on here in the near future but if you refer to the letter sent out at the end of last term you can find out more about it. See you later!

Addition Games

Number Bonds to 1000 - make pairs that equal 1000

Number Bonds to Anything - you can choose your own bonds. Make pairs that equal 10000 if you like!

Duck Shoot - count in tens and shoot the duck with the right number

Number Darts - put the dart in the right place to make a number; you might need to use doubles

3. Writing - This is different for different groups so CONCENTRATE:

North and West - Letts, page 18 questions 1 & 3. The questions are about verbs
South and East - Key Comprehension, page 36. Questions about the story we discussed in class.

Both of those writing pieces should be done in the writing book. All homework to be given in tomorrow.

2. Write a 'Happy Family' type story. Remember the plan that we went through in class; you could have a problem that is repeated and then resolved. There should be simple words, short sentences and a happy ending. If you're not sure what to do, we'll go over the plan again tomorrow and you can do it at the weekend. NB THIS HOMEWORK IS TO GIVE IN ON SATURDAY!

2. Learn your spellings - this week is past tense verbs
   
3. Write about 7 important parts of the body - you need to make a chart or table in the topic book. Choose a body part, maybe an organ, and write what problems could occur, especially when you get older. Then, write what we can do to fix any problems or avoid problems occurring at all. This could be: eating certain foods, doing specific things (eg exercise) or even avoiding certain things. As much detail as possible please.
