We're looking at reversible and irreversible changes in Science at the moment. We're trying to find out why some changes are reversible and one of the ideas that we came up with is that they involve chemical changes. Here's a chemical change in action but remember, don't try this at home!

Poetry Please!

Alrighty then! It's the House Poetry Competition coming soon and here's what you've got to do:

Choose a poem between 12 and 24 lines (longer is ok if you can manage it)
Learn it by heart
Print it or save it and give it to Mr Ward
Recite your poem next week and maybe be the best in the class

Then, once we've chosen the best in the class, we'll choose the best in the Year Group and then we'll hear the best in the school in the UP Assembly on the 29th.

Earth Hour

So, are you ready to put the lights out? It's Earth Hour at 8.30 tonight; the hour when people around the world try to turn out their lights as a small gesture towards conserving energy and looking after our planet. We can't make a big difference all by ourselves but we can make a small one and if enough of us do it, we might do enough to make a big one. Here's the video that we watched in class that gives us a short introduction to what is happening.


We were working on rotation of shapes today and some of us managed to get to play a little golf at the same time; maths golf that is. You have to move the ball into the hole in the smallest number of moves by rotating, reflecting or transforming the position. So far, Abdullah is in the lead with 41 points. Can anyone do better? Here's the game if you'd like to have a go.

Taking A Trip To Red Sea Mall

Whew! What a great trip that was! We had a lot of fun at Red Sea Mall today, going on the rides, screaming, taking photos, screaming, getting soaking wet on the Log Flume, screaming, feeling really sick on Jamaica, screaming, asking to have something to eat and screaming. A couple of us got a bit too bumped on the Bumper Cars and a couple of us needed a few too many reminders to act safely but mostly we had a good time. Here's a few photos and a little song to go with the trip.

Our Place In Space

Here's the video that we watched in class. It gives you a really good idea about the size of Earth and the Sun compared to some of the other things in space. We are really tiny!

Today's Homework

Well, it says today but it should be Wednesday's. Anyway...

1. Daily Maths 5
2. Finish off your draft letter to Magrabi (should be almost finished)
3. Bring in a fruit with seeds. Bonus pat on the back for bringing in the biggest seed or the most unusual fruit.

Almost at the end of Y5 now. I expect most of the class will be on holiday already (hint, hint). This week we'll try to finish off our magnetic games (some photos of finished games below), painting our faces - the clay ones that is - and doing lots and lots of work.

But! Because it's Friday, have a Ninja Cat.

Welcome Back

Hello again everyone. I hope you enjoyed our most recent half-term. It may not have seemed very long but don't forget, it was 86400 seconds, which sounds a lot longer than than 1 day or 0.27% of a year. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, we'll be studying units of time this week in maths and those are three ways of writing 24 hours.

Now as we've missed Saturday, we won't be having a library lesson this week. If any of you want to bring your library books on Sunday (or any other day) I'm sure Mrs Schermer will be happy to take them. We won't be having a library lesson next week either as it's our OUTDOOR ED time! Yay!

One final thing; here's the video about the eye that we watched on Wednesday. Feel free to have another look, just in case I give you a test or something. :-)

However, here's something else first. We are about to study a little about how the eye works, how we 'see' the world around us and what part light plays in this process. In my endless search for new and interesting study material, I came across this video. I thought that the tricks that the makers played using only light were amazing. Only the buildings and people are real; nothing that appears on the building is really there. Or is it?

Well done everyone for the poems you were writing this morning. I was feeling as though it would be hard work but you managed to come up with some great stories, especially Aly, who even wrote his in rhyme! I'll make a book of them so that you can read the class collection when everyone has finished writing them.
