Mystery Object

This is a painting by Roy Lichtenstein in the 'Pop Art' style. Congratulations to Mohammad again, for being the first with the answer. Ahmed was second although he didn't seem to know how he got the answer. Oh well.

Today's Homework

  1. Daily Maths 1
  2. Finish your complementary colours picture
  3. Finish the first 2 paragraphs of the time machine story. The first paragraph should be about you; who are you, where are you, what are you doing, where do you get the time machine from, why did you get the time machine etc. The second paragraph is about how you get the time machine to work; what did you hear, see, feel, do etc. Don't write anything about the future though.

Colour Wheel

If you are trying to finish your colour wheel at home and you're not sure what it should look like, this might help.

Tuesday 27 May 2008

Today's Homework

  • Daily Maths 3
  • Make a poster of clothes - 1 man and 1 woman. You can use pictures of your country's national dress or any clothes you want. When you have stuck (or drawn) the clothes on the poster, write the names of the clothes in another language, not English! You can give this in on Saturday as you are going to make such a good job of it. Look in magazines or advertisements or maybe on the internet for pictures.

Monday 26 May 2008

Today's Homework

  • Daily Maths 2
  • Finish 1 colour poem (If you've already done it you don't HAVE to do another but you can if you want to)
  • Letts p.83 Finish the Text and Sentence boxes

Here are a couple of examples if you're not sure how to do your colour poem:

Red
Red is the colour of Santa's hat.
Red feels like a hot fire in someones house.
Red smells like sweet apple juice.
Red sounds like a person crunching an apple.
Red tastes like strawberries.
Red looks like red sunburn on my face and arms.
Red makes me feel happy and good.

Blue
Blue is the colour of our school uniform.
Blue tastes like cold blueberries.
Blue smells bad like my shoes.
Blue sound like a car and the rain falling.
Blue feels like a smooth blue paper.
Blue looks like a rubbish bin at the school.
Blue makes me happy and feel loved.

Fashion Parade

Don't forget! Tomorrow is the day when you should wear your own clothes and bring a piece of your favourite music in. You can wear anything you like (within the bounds of taste and decency) but try to choose something interesting that might be a bit different to other people.

The same goes for the music. Any language, any style, any age. Just make sure it is suitable for us to listen to (no bad words) and try to bring it on a cd. Cassette or memory stick is also ok.

See you tomorrow!

Mr Ward's Fantastic Music

I know you all loved the music that we heard this afternoon. I couldn't guess who had picked some of the songs so well done to everyone who did, especially the people who worked out when I was trying to trick them.

If you want to hear my tune again, here it is, including the video!

Today's Homework

  • Daily Maths 1
  • Abacus SDM workbook p.102 & p.103

Wednesday 21 May 2008

New Unit

We're about to embark on a new unit of study. The next unit is called 'Fashion' and there will be lots of work to do with art, music and design in it. We'll be finding out more about it next week but if anyone has any old clothes or bits of old material that they no longer want, please send them in as we will be designing and making jackets at some point.

Don't forget to start thinking about what to wear for the fashion parade and what music you want to share with the rest of the class.

Today's Homework

As you may know, there is no homework because it is cinema night. However, as some people didn't do their homework yesterday, perhaps they can use their time tonight to catch up with what they missed.

Monday 19 May 2008

Today's Homework

  • Daily Maths 3 (This is the daily maths sheet that you had before the holiday)
  • Finish writing the story about the Spanish meeting the Aztecs. Check it through for spelling mistakes or missing words (Remember capital letters for names) and copy it onto the A4 sheet I gave you. Use the line guide to make sure that your writing is straight.

Mystery Object

There were lots of answers to this question, even some from people who had left their names, which was helpful. I think there might also be a bit of disagreement about the correct answer as well. We had at least three different answers: the Faisaliah Centre, the Kingdom Tower and the Kingdom Centre.

Here is the building's website and from it we can see the official name. So, 1hp to Rayan for getting the location correct first. 1hp to Thea for gettting the name correct first. 2cp to Mohammad for getting the name and location correct first. 1cp to Khalid for getting the location correct.

Toady's Homework

  • Daily Maths 1
  • 100 square times table (I seem to have a lot left. Did some people forget to take one?)
  • Abacus w/b p.74

Mystery Object

This man is...

Gerardus Mercator. Sounds a bit like someone from Harry Potter, doesn't it?

I suppose there was a bit of clue because we know that Mercator lived about 450 years ago. That picture looks a bit old to be Peters, who we know is still alive now.

Anyway, we had lots of entries, mostly with no name on but these people remembered to include their name: Thea, Ryan and Ahmed and the first person to answer correctly was Thea!

There's No Business Like Showbusiness

The big day arrived and we did our assembly! Hurray! Now which was the nicest feeling: doing the assembly or knowing that we don't have to do it any more?

I thought everyone did very well. I could hear what was being said most of the time, nobody forgot anything and all the comments that I heard from the audience were positive. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as well. We had lots of parents and families coming to watch and they seemed pleased with it. Some of them have even left a message for us in the post below!

Anyway, well done everyone! You can all heave a big sigh of relief that you don't have to do another one until Year 5. We can get back to doing lots of work again. Hurrah!

Tuesday 6 May 2008

Today's Homework

  • Practice your words for tomorrow.

I think that the assembly practise is going really well. You've only had four days to learn the lines and the moves and everything else and you've done a great job. Make sure you concentrate tomorrow; relax, speak loudly and clearly and remember where to go and when to go. If you do all that, everyone will have a great time and the audience will really enjoy it.

Monday 5 May 2008

Today's Homework

  • Daily Maths 2
  • Handwriting Workbook p.18-19 Please do both pages and remember that you have to actually write sentences, not just one word.

Assembly practice is going fairly well. I'm glad to see that some people have learned their words already. Keep trying at home if you haven't learned them yet. You also need to know who is speaking before you, not just your own bits.

We need two or three hobby horses. Hannah has one and Aly has a purple one but one or two more might be nice. The Spanish are supposed to be riding them when they come to Tenochtitlan.

Saturday 3 May 2008

Today's Homework

Ok, it's going to be a tiny bit complicated so WAKE UP!

  1. Daily Maths 1
  2. Prepare ideas for the debate - Some people have already done this. It should be done in your writing book. One paragraph was done in class. The second paragraph is about the Spanish invasion being good, the third about it being bad, the fourth is your opinion.
  3. Abacus 2 workbook p.72 and p75
Also, start practising your lines for the assembly. Remember to bring any costumes or props in, if you have them.

Mystery Object

That's right, it was Margaret Mee who painted pictures of Amazonian flowers like this.

Of course, everyone knew that because, after setting the question, we all went onto a website and looked at the pictures by Margaret Mee.

So it's a bit puzzling that some people seem to think that it was a picture by Georgia O'Keefe, who we also looked at. Nevermind, several people got the correct answer: Amy, Youssef, Ahmed, Thea and Afif. Amy gave in the first correct answer so she wins the point.
